CORNEAL & SCLERAL Diseases

The cornea is the clear, transparent, colourless avascular structure that covers the front one-sixth of the total circumference of the globe of the eye whereas the sclera covers the remaining five-sixths. The interface between the corneal tear film and the ambient atmosphere provides roughly two-thirds of the refractive power of the human eye. Keratoconus is an eye disease that causes the cornea to thin and bulge into a cone shape, which can lead to vision loss. The cornea is the clear, dome-shaped surface at the front of the eye that focuses light. When it changes shape, it can cause light rays to become out of focus, resulting in blurry, distorted vision. Other symptoms include: double vision, near sightedness, irregular astigmatism, light sensitivity, and recurrent eye strain and headaches.

At Sudarshanam, we have seen notable response to Ayurveda treatment in patients with Keratoconus and visible improvement in the quality of vision.
